To Lesly

A poem inspired by my experience as a teacher

He had a daughter and a wife
Six months into his daughter's life
He gave up on the stress and strife
And never came back.

His daughter is now aged fifteen
In class, her lovely smile is seen
So sweet, though I have never been
married.

I think a man ought to be sad
To know that once he actually had
a chance to be a special Dad
