Sleep walking through life
Bumping up against barricades
Stumbling into a deep fog
That seems endless and dense
I see no way out.
My mind plays tricks on me
I see something skitter off across my path
But I have no idea what it was
Or if it will come back.
I stagger looking back over my shoulder
As noises rise up in the mist
I hear my heartbeat as my pulse skyrockets
I've never felt so utterly alone.
I wander aimlessly hoping to see some point of reference
Something to let me know I am not so completely lost.
I call out and my voice is swallowed up in the plume of grey
A stillness so vast envelops me
And I squeeze my eyes shut
Praying for a way out.
Soon the sun will rise
And burn its way through
Releasing me from my foggy prison
Until then I curl myself into a protective ball
And wait for the hovering shadows to move away
And the noises to dissipate
This nightmare that holds me bound
Will loosen.... I hope.
