The ''Beto Sadisana''Foundation begins construction of a modern morgue in Kikwit city |
By Badylon Kawanda Bakiman Through its founder Djongo Nkiwi, “Beto Sadisana”, a civil society development organization, has just laid the foundation stone for a modern mortuary in the town of Kikwit, Kwilu province, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The 40-place facility will run mainly on renewable energy generated by solar panels, including an emergency generator, according to the initiators. The ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon, March 29, 2025, in the Ndeke-Zulu district, in the presence of political, administrative, traditional and religious authorities, as well as a number of invited guests. An almost opaque crowd also attended the event. "If we don't do this, who else will? This act should spur others on to take action to develop our town. We came to build and develop our entity. Our city must change for the better. We want you to come! Let's work together to build our city of Kikwit. We are laying the foundation stone today. And the work itself will be carried out by an engineer from Kinshasa. Unity is strength...", declared Djongo Nkiwi in his speech to a large crowd. He asked for everyone's prayers and support in this world full of battles. Although an unsuccessful candidate in the 2023 legislative elections, he has not crossed his arms. He is determined to make his vision of development a reality. The construction of this facility is taking place in a context where the town has only one morgue, based at the Kikwit 1 referral hospital in the commune of Lukolela. This means that many other parts of the town, such as Kikwit 3, Kikwit 4, Kikwit 5 etc., cannot quickly reach the main morgue of the general hospital, given the enormous distance involved. The distance is estimated to be enormous. That's why this activity is welcomed and supported by the authorities in all their diversity. For example, Serge Musila, burgomaster of the commune of Nzinda, on behalf of the town's mayor and in his own name, encouraged the initiative, speaking out against hatred. "I'm delighted to see that our children who left are coming back to carry out actions with a visible impact. The work under construction is not the property of the ASBL ‘'Beto Sadisana’', but it is a work that will serve the entire Kikwit community. Don't let Django forget the town of Kikwit in the years to come. We want competition for development. No question of hatred or misplaced jealousy. Let's unite to build this structure and develop the entity", hammered Burgomaster Serge Musila. Seizing the opportunity, Burgomaster Musila proceeded to bless the initiator of this event. The traditional and religious chiefs present at the ceremony also lent their support to ensure that everything went smoothly. And the laying of the foundation stone was accompanied by an African ancestral rite to great applause. |
