Amber and Mia go stag to a house party. 300 words

The Party Crowd

“Everyone is looking at us,”whispered Mia into her friend Amber’s ear.

“Of course they are! We look fabulously fashionable and are just as fashionably late.”

“Is my dress tucked into my pantyhose? Have I got spinach in my teeth?”

“Relax, you’re gorgeous and spinach free,” Amber told her softly.

Mia heaved a relieved breath and began to look around.

“Eleven o’clock, here comes handsome,” Amber told her.

“That time already? I promised my folks I’d be home by now!”

Amber pointed in the eleven o’clock position of the room.

“Is that who I think it is?” asked Mia

Amber nodded yes.

Both girls gulped and smiled. The hunk just kept going right past them.

“Now what do we do?” Mia asked.

“Wait for the next one.”

Mia tossed her red hair and marched up to the first cute guy in bachelor's row, also called the left wall of the living room.

“Wanna dance?” she asked.

He grinned and followed her onto the floor. They danced three dances, then she spoke in his ear. He headed for the punchbowl and Mia went back to Amber.

“Would you look at you! You said you’d never been to a house party before.”

“I haven’t. I just decided that if I wanted to have a good time, I had to make the first move.”

“Will you be okay, if I follow your lead?”

“Sure, here comes my dance partner back with my punch.”

After that, the two girls never saw each other at the party. It wasn’t until the next morning that Amber found out that someone’s dog had found Mia dead in a ditch full of water not far from the party house.

Guilt-ridden, Amber never went dancing or to a private house party ever again after that night.
