To go to a time and a place lost in the past

One More Time

I want to go back one more time
To a time and a place a lifetime ago.
To walk down Water Street in Kent
With my love and our friends.
It was a hole in the wall bar.
It was a basement bar
Down a flight of well-worn steps.
Down into the smoky place
That smelled of too many people,
Tabacco, grass, beer and booze.
It seemed a wall of sound met us
When we entered the place.
The band beginning it's first set
And people talking loudly
To be heard by their friends.
There through the regular crowd
We would find an ancient booth
That was across from the narrow dance floor
To the stage and the band.
Like many Saturdays then.
Too many drinks next
And too many joints.
We listened watching the band
And laughing at almost anything.
Not a particular night
Just one of so many then.
We were too reckless,
Lost in the music
With close friends
Some lost to the years.
Just to be there
One more time
Is that too much to ask?
