Matalee and Talina drink a potion to adopt each other's hairstyles

Hair Transformations
Matalee, with her normally straight brown hair suddenly in kinky curls, smiled as she fondled it. Usually, it reached below her slim shoulders, yet in tight curls it was no longer than her ears.

"Now it is your turn." She said to her best friend.

The dark-skinned girl with tight kinky hair in a halo about her pretty head, drank the second half of the potion. The greenish liquid dribbled down her chin as she gulped. She smiled embarrassedly and wiped off the excess.

"Is it working?" Talina asked feeling her black hair.

"Don't. You know the Witchy Woman said not to touch it as it transforms."

The slightly shorter woman pulled her hands down instantly. She could feel the potion start to work. "Tell me."

Matalee watched it in fascination. "Your curls are loosening. It is getting longer as they straighten out. Your hair is almost completely straight and nearly down to your shoulders."

"Can I touch it now?" She asked her friend.

"Yes. It looks like there are no more curls left. Go ahead and feel it." Matalee agreed still feeling her curly hair.

It was a hot summer day, and the pair wore their favorite outfits to tease the boys, short skirts and low-cut tops. Their boots were barely above the ankle, and they had reddened their lips with berry juice.

"Let's go and get some lemonade from the Mighty Mouse. Matalee said. "Geoffrey has that silver mirror."

"And we can show off our new hair!" Talina exclaimed as they two young women left the flower laden field and headed for town.

Children old enough to have slipped their mother's apron strings, but younger than working in the fields populated the only Tavern. Drinking Geoffrey's sweetened lemonade; they teased each other and laughed. He was an unofficial babysitter when his room was full of children avoiding the heat of the day. The mayor took a collection each Festival to pay him for the ingredients. It was a win for all involved as the Barkeeper was allowed to keep the extra money.

The children swarmed the pair as they swirled and moved straight to the large silver mirror that was Geoffrey's pride and joy. Lady Rana had given it to him as a present for the excellent time she had on her trip to their town.
Matalee and Talina good naturedly crowded with each other to see first. It was all great fun seeing the results of the hair potion they had saved up to buy for the Festival of Lyndia as the Mother.

The pair of friends were still unattached, and still not mothers. They had been celebrated nearly forty-five days earlier at the Festival of Lyndia as the Young Maiden. The rituals and festivities were played out to honor the Great Goddess as well as teach young women now old enough to be praised after starting their cycle of bloodletting. Their mothers would be praised the next day.

The pair, as well as the children, was fascinated by the hair transformation. Everyone reached some rather rudely, to touch, or fondle, or pull slightly on the altered heads of hair.

"This is your last warning." Geoffrey's voice rose in volume, but gently. "The sun is setting, and you must go home for supper."

The children with groans of disappointment glumly left, though some raced out because dinner was their favorite that night.

With the change of seven copper coins from the witchy Woman Matalee and Talina bought a crock of lemonade each and took seats front and center of the open doorway so that everyone would see their new hairstyles. They drank and smiled at each other
