My Unknown Grandfather

A poem about the grandfather I barely knew

Though gone before I knew him
All that I have heard
Of my unknown Grandfather
Was admirable

A brilliant surgeon
Who discovered the key
To saving my brother
For which I am grateful

A veteran of war
Who did not discriminate
Even treating the enemy
As they were human beings

A loving father
And a patient man
With a thirst for knowledge
Like my own dad

So even though I never
Knew him as well as I could have
My unknown grandfather
Has a place in my heart
