our dogs acting as the quiet bridge between two people falling in love

Where Love Learned to Sit

Zoey knew first.
She always did.
She pressed her head into his palm
like a blessing neither of us asked for
but both of us needed.

Lady followed—
curling at our feet,
a patient witness to the way
silence softened between us,
the way strangers turned into something gentle.

They taught us how to stay.
How to listen.
How love doesn’t announce itself—
it simply lies down beside you
and waits to be noticed.

Zoey wagged joy into the awkward moments,
Lady guarded the pauses,
as if love needed permission
to grow slow and unafraid.

We learned affection through fur and breath,
through shared leashes and morning walks,
through hands brushing accidentally
and not pulling away.

When our hearts hesitated,
they nudged us forward—
two small souls insisting
that love was safe here.

And if our story ever lasts,
it will be because Zoey and Lady
sat between us first,
teaching our hearts
where love belongs.
