topaz ... as blue as winter's skies

blue topaz

a cold grey stone once cracked
reveals gold inside that
glares at me with topaz eyes
as blue as winter's skies

no one can ever know

that behind your smiles
silence cools embers that guard
their heat deep inside me
until the thaw

that never comes

on valentine's day
one heart remains split in two
me and you
and a wall of suffering

we won't acknowledge
