The Birthday Party!

We always had a big deal on birthdays, even when the kids were little. Over the years they caught up. Big birthdays for them and for me and Dad too. My daughter was born, in late August. It was so easy to change the “Family” birthday parties to school friends. First in her preschool in another town. Then when kindergarten started, some of the preschool classmates were also from our town, and now add classmates!
Our son was two years younger, born at the end of December. He was so excited when he got old enough to have friends come for his birthday party! He had preschool too until he started kindergarten, but nobody else from our town was in his class. However, he did have one friend in our neighborhood, and many new friends from school.
We got everything ready, so exciting! He helped a lot, and his sister too. His first birthday party with classmates! We made it on the last Saturday of the vacation, even though it wasn’t exactly his birthday, but it wouldn’t interfere with Christmas vacation. It started at two, and had games and surprises, the cake, and lots of candy. We let parents know they could stay or just drop their kid off; it would end at five. Gary, from up the street came first. After an hour waiting, Gary asked, "Where is everyone else?"
We had the party with just us, and Gary. It was fun, though confusing… However, over the week we heard from every other family… they’d all forgotten! It was Christmas vacation!
He eventually got all his presents! However, until he was old enough to do his own thing for his birthday, we started having his birthday parties in June. June, warm, wonderful June, when everybody shows up!
