Friends lose the point together. |
Pointed Discussion “That’s not the point,” insisted Ursula.“Does every conversation have to have a point?” drawled Suanne. “Of course, or it isn’t a real conversation!” Suanne shook her head emphatically. “What?” “I don’t believe every real conversation has to have a point.” “Then, why converse?” “To connect with others.” “How do you suggest people do that without making a point?” “Let me give you an example of what I consider a pointless conversation.” Ursula prepared herself. “Where shall we go for lunch?” “Not pointless if you’re hungry.” “The pointless part is discussing it at all. We always go to the same place.” “If you want to go someplace else all you have to do is say so!” Suanne sighed deeply. “You missed my point.” “I thought you said it was going to be a pointless conversation.” Both women realized they were at an impasse in the topic. “What now?” Ursula said with a grin. “All right, I concede that even seemingly pointless conversations still have a point, if an inane one.” Both women burst into giggles and started to go to lunch. “What will we do after lunch?” Suanne asked. “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” Ursula countered with. “Here we go again! Another conversation with a weak point.” “A weak point is better than no point.” “I’m not sure about that point,” Ursula said. “We must refrain from having these pointed conversations, don’t you think?” “We could, but what would be the fun of that?” The friends had to stop and laugh uproariously again. “One thing about us, we can converse about anything,” Suanne said. “With or without a point!” Ursula added. Their laughter resumed the rest of the way to the café for lunch. Cream of Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for two. |
