LOVE – Random Thoughts… By: Melinda Reynolds – Copyright 2002 Love Mystifying word... Simple, yet complex; an emotion full of contradictions. Always open to speculation, interpretation, and doubt. Sought after desperately, but often overlooked; Offered frequently, yet usually rejected. Once obtained, difficult to keep; Once kept, difficult to be rid of; Once rid of, impossible to retrieve. Responsible for the most spiritually uplifting actions the world has known; Responsible for the most horrifying atrocities the world has ever committed. Gives all, takes everything... Oxymoron incarnate. We can exist without love, but we cannot live without it. Love knows no boundaries, limitations, or restrictions; Love provides a safe haven, fosters fulfillment, and allows unlimited potential. Love holds close while setting free. Love. It separates us from the animals, but does it make us animals? It motivates us to react, but takes no responsibility for the act. It opens our eyes to see beyond ourselves, and blinds us to what lies within. It reveals and displays our own faults and shortcomings, but conceals and overlooks the undesirable traits of our loved one. 'I did it for love.' A five-word declaration that absolves all actions, ill or good. 'Do you love me?' A four-word demand to guarantee one’s needs. 'I love you.' A three-word rationalization for one's desires. 'Love me!' A two-word cry of desperate need. Love. It strikes like lightning, and leaves much the same result: If you survive, you'll never be quite the same... ...and lightning can strike more than once. |
