A rhyming children's sonnet. Wilbert learns "there is no place like home".
Wilbert the Walrus was a lovable guy
With a great big smile and twinkling eyes.
He loved to run and jump and play
And just have fun both night and day.

Wilbert had a sister, a mom, and a dad.
He lived in a house near a sea called Gad.

Wilbert's sister was nasty and awfully mean!
She would yell and holler and then she would scream:
"Why you shouldn't do this and you shouldn't do that!"
"And why can't you ever do anything right!"
Was all that poor Wilbert heard night after night!

His mother and father were the same way too!
Oh, what was poor Wilbert going to do?

One day Wilbert had had enough
So he bought a big bag and packed all his stuff.
Then he slung the big sack on his very strong back
And walked, and walked, and walked until he reached
A place that is known as Walrus' Beach

And there on the beach above him flew
A robin, a pigeon and a seagull too.
And nestled real close to his feet in the sand
Was a great big turtle whose name is Grand.

"Come play!", cried the robin as she flapped her wings
We'll have all sorts of fun and do all sorts of things!
We'll run and roll and laugh and play,
And just have fun both night and day!"

"Yes!" said the turtle whose name was Grand
"The seagull will take you to the land of Rand
Where everything is so warm and so bright
And nothing is done just exactly right!"

Then soaring quickly down the big seagull came
And Wilbert said "By the way, What's you're name?"
The seagull said "Howdy, my name is Guide."
Then Wilbert said "Let's go, I'm ready to ride!"

So up, and up, and up they flew
Soaring in the sky which was very blue.
They flew until finally they did reach
A place that is known as the Great Airport Beach

For three days they swam in the crystal sea;
They danced on the mountains and climbed tall trees;
They laughed and hollered and had a good time;
And Wilbert felt that he was doing just fine.

And always at noon when the others would rest
Wilbert did what he liked to do best
He go to a place where he had a good view;
He'd take his paper and his crayons too;
And then he would sit and carefully draw;
Anything and everything that he saw.

Then quickly everything did change.
The robin and seagull got tired of the games.
"See you later" they said as they sailed away.
"We have more important things to do today."

They sailed off and left Wilbert all alone.
Then Wilbert cried "Why did I run from my home!"
Then Wilbert remembered his mom and his dad,
And all the great times that his family had.

So he grabbed his sack - All his stuff he packed
And he walked, and walked and walked until he reached,
A place that is known as the Great Airport Beach.

And there on the beach a big seagull cried,
"All aboard if you're going for the ride!"
So Wilbert hopped on and away they did fly,
Going very high in the clear blew sky.

They flew until they finally did reach
A place that is known as Walrus's Beach
Then Wilbert as fast as he could ran home
And promised his parent's he would never more roam

Now at home Wilbert sat under a tree
And he began to draw everything he did see
And his sister came out and laughingly said
"No,not like that! Draw it this way instead.

But Wilbert looked up with a smile on his face,
And said, "Sis I love you but get off my case!"
Then a gentle wind blew across Wilbert's face
Wilbert felt good. He had found his place.

He was home!
