A poem of a farewell as a prisoner is sent to Australia |
Farewell my dearest country, I weep and grieve even as the ship is parting. As I watch thee fading away, And my journey is just starting. Farewell my noble country, I see thou great and towering cliffs far away, As I lose thee to the horizon, My last sight of thee maybe today. Farewell my heroic country, I may return to thy pleasent green hills. I cannot see thee anymore, Except this the flying English gulls. Farewell my smiling country, I shalt not dispair at our seperation, For as I land in Bombay, My true journey has just begun. Farewell a fond farewell, I have my England still held in my heart. Farewell and a merry greeting, For our journey has yet to start. |
