A kid tells all the colours to "disappear," after his art project gets ruined. |
The Great, Big, Grey Catastrophe I thought that it would be Another ordinary day, When I found, to my surprise, That the world was turning grey. It started with the highest leaf, Upon the highest tree- So high that no one noticed it, Especially not me. I should have caught it right away, I should have been prepared- I NEVER should have said those words - I NEVER should have dared. This great, big , grey catastrophe Would never have occurred, If I had not spilled my paint upon My papiér maché bird. The colours RAN ! They RUINED my work! They made a GIANT mess ! I almost threw the bird across the room, (I must confess). Instead, I shouted, loud enough, For ALL the world to hear: “I HATE YOU, STUPID COLOURS!!!!! I WISH YOU’D DISAPPEAR!!!!” I had to leave the classroom, And stand out in the hall. I was feeling pretty silly - I was feeling two-feet tall. The bell for recess finally rang, And out the doors I flew. Then suddenly I realized The doors were now not blue! I guessed they must have painted them, While I was in my class, Until I saw the same thing happen to EVERY blade of grass! The playground swings, the monkey bars, The teeter-totters too! They all looked rather dull to me, a greyish sort of hue. Soon there was NO color left, On ANYTHING in sight - The world went dark and dismal, With VERY little light. I thought about the words I 'd said, About my paper bird, I realized, to my surprise, That Mother Nature heard! “You HAVE to bring the colours back!” I yelled into the air, “We REALLY need to see them, We really NEED them here!” Then, just as quickly as they left, The colours soon came back- The reds, the yellows, greens and blues, Even white and black. This great, big, grey catastrophe Was finally at its end; And ever since that fateful day, The colours are my friend! |
