A poem about an astronaut preparing to explore a new planet for the first time
Planetfall
by M. Lowery

Winds whip and toss around the ship
But it cuts through the atmosphere.
The hull shakes and rumbles
But I stand in the bay, pushing down my fear.

Garbed in my spacesuit and helmet,
I’m ready for my first drop,
My first expedition on a new world.
Terra is far away.
No matter the cost, the fear,
This is the day.

Lower and lower, the ship descends
To the planet.
Blue seas, purple trees, peculiar animals lay below.
Mysteries and dangers wait for me.
Lower and lower, the ship descends.
I check my vitals and what I know.

Alarms screech in the bay.
Lights flash in the metal walls.
The bay door rumbles and opens.
My mission starts; it’s time for planetfall.
