Love.... Interrupted

Posy picked up the roses leaning against the door jam and inhaled the soft floral scents. She pulled the note out to read:

To my dearest love. Meet me up on the rooftop after nine. I have a surprise planned just for us.

All day the memory of his words had her smiling.

"Plans tonight?" Samantha asked leaning into Posy's cubby.

"I do."

"Oh, you'll have to tell me all about it tomorrow."

"What about you?

"Hot date," Samantha said mischievously.


That evening Posy took pains to look her absolute best before heading up to the rooftop terrace. As she opened the door she heard a woman's laugh. It sounded oddly familiar.

She made her way across to the pagoda in the far corner.

She was about to call out Brock's name when the woman's laugh sounded again.

"Oh, Brock. You're a devil."

Posy froze.

She forced herself to move forward. Her heart lodged in her throat.

Before her, she found Brock kissing her friend, Samantha. She gasped and the two broke apart.

"Posy." he squawked.

"You've been seeing each other...."

"Posy, I didn't want you to find out like this -" Brock began.

"You didn't want me to find out like this?" Her voice began to rise, "This is my surprise? "

"Well.... no...."

"They put the same message on the flowers. Yours was supposed to be tomorrow night -"

"And that makes it okay?"

Samantha's eyes slipped to her lap.

Posy took a deep breath, closing her eyes she counted to ten before saying in a monotone, "I never want to see you again. Either of you. You can both go to hell."

Then she turned and stalked off. At the rooftop door, she took satisfaction slamming it before locking it. Let them rot up there for all she cared.
