Money Troubles

Roger quickly counted the money she had handed him. Scowling, he brought the gun up until it pointed at the store clerk’s face.

“I need more money!”

“I wish I could help you with that, but I emptied my wallet and cash drawer. There is no more!”

“You guys must have a safe, right?”

“Only the owner can open it. I don’t know the combination, nobody but him does,” Cara, who was the night clerk in the store.

“Call him. Get him over here.”

She got on her cell and autodialed.

“Mr. Gregor? I’m having some trouble with a customer. Can you come by ASAP and help me out.”

Roger looked at her.

“Seems pretty obliging for a boss.”

“He knows if I call him, I need him.”

“How long will it take him to get here?”

“Maybe fifteen minutes at the most.”

Roger grinned and put his gun in his waistband.

Two men came in the store quietly and stood behind the thief. One slipped his gun out of his waistband. The other laid a heavy hand on his shoulder.

“Hi Cara. What do you need?” said one.

“This man wants more money.”

“He does, does he? What’s your name, sir?”

“Roger.”

“Well, Roger with no last name; that won’t be happening.”

“Besides, you won’t be needing the money you got, where you’re going. Might as well leave it here.” said the second man as he frisked him and gave the money to Cara.

Roger was startled by the second male voice in his ear. He felt cuffs being clamped on his wrists.

“Let’s go!” the two men said as they turned him toward the door.

As they left, Cara said: “Thanks Mac and Gregor! See you for coffee.”

The two policemen nodded and smiled at her.
