Looking Ahead

Heads up
concentrate
vision pinpointed to the distance
one headlight focused
at extreme range
pool of light
in the darkness
on we hurtle.

Shapes flash peripherally
today glimpsed formless
in the night
and in the mirror
yesterday piles its dreams
forsaken.
