I hear the Wind
10 Masa'il 164 B.E. - Thursday, December 20, 2007 about 6:29 PM PST
I hear the wind sounding like waves washing into shore
And making noises like a water fall.
I hear the wind knocking on my front door
And pounding on the window panes.
I hear the wind and remember Oklahoma
Where tornadoes dance across the land
Leaving behind death and destruction.
I hear the wind as it sings through the boughs of fir trees
Knocking pine cones and needles onto my roof.
I hear the wind whispering to the olive tree
Promising to return in the summer
Pick its unripe olives,
Throw them to the ground
And clutter up my driveway and sidewalk.
I hear the wind that can't drown out the sound
Of jet fighters or hi the echoes of gunfire.
I hear the wind and know that it's the same wind
That blew through the streets of ancient Rome.
I hear the wind pushing on my garage door
And wonder if when I shut it a moment ago
I shut someone or something inside.
