FORM: Petrarchan Sonnet JACK-O-LANTERN SONNET Halloween is quickly coming around, The jack-o-lantern does eagerly wait; For this October’s most important date, When ghouls and ghosts and mischief abound. He wears a witch’s hat proud like a crown, Eager, flaming bright eyes staring out straight; His carving meticulous and ornate, Soon young trick-or-treaters will be inbound. Autumn is now only mere weeks away, And the excitement is now running high, Jack rests anxiously, proudly on his perch; To be admired and set on display, In a few months, Jack will say his goodbye, Eleven months ‘til the next pumpkin search |
