No Dialogue Contest WORD COUNT : 303 ROUND 30 PROMPT BIRTHDAY August make up contest Recalling my First year By Lisa Noe ![]() On September fourth, 1966 I was born in Amarillo, Texas. I have one older sister, who was just fascinated in me when my parents brought me home from the hospital. My grandmother stayed with her to babysit and my sister got in trouble for running across the street to an elementary school. Daddy was in the Air force and had to be sent to Vietnam when I was three months old. He took Mama, my sister, Tammie, and I to Kentucky to live while he was gone. We lived in an apartment over a funeral home. He was gone for one year. I recall my first birthday party My father came home from over seas and mama invited all of the children of the neighborhood. We played games and I can still recall one game in which you took a tablespoon and filled it with raw beans and brought it across the lawn from one container to another, without spilling them. I, being so young, did not understand the rules or concept of the game so I just got my spoonful of beans and ate them. My first birthday was a big success, even though I made a fool out of myself. I fondly recall it because my father came home from That terrible war. I was flying a wooden bee on a string and accidentally hit daddy in the mouth with it. His mouth began bleeding and I screamed, And started crying, as it scared me to death. He took a wash cloth and pressed it to the injury, stopping the bleeding. He then picked me up and hugged me tight, telling me all was just fine and that he loved me very much. |
