I got so excited about my trip to Wildwood, that I totally forgot to mention this. Look at the shiny awardicon!!

Not a whole lot of exciting things happening today. We're taking a break from shows tonight to see Order of the Phoenix, and I'm having a "date-day" with my hubby tomorrow. We still don't have plans, though... he hates making plans, but I get nervous without them. We'll probably end up renting movies again... which I'd rather not do (since that's what we did the past few weekends), but oh well. A date's a date, right? *Laugh*

Traci and I decided this summer to have a business meeting at the beach at least once per month. We've done three of them so far (luckily we have a few lakes with beaches within driving distance).

Yesterday's "meeting" was at Wildwood, New Jersey. (Hey, I vaguely remember discussing the magazine...)

Photo time! *Bigsmile*

Since they're only tiny thumbnails when posted here, I'll just give you the link to the photo album if you'd like to see the photographs. (I think they're worth a look - the collection includes surfers, a cute waiter and poisonivy and I in bathing suits!) *Shock* *Laugh*

The trip was just awesome, and I can't wait to go again someday!I had a few first experiences:

I tried Polish water ice, walked on a boardwalk, saw surfers and stepped into the ocean! The sand on the beach was so soft and warm!

I think I might have seen a few jellyfish. It was hard to tell because they'd be swept in with a wave, and then they were carried back out again right away. I only saw them for a second. They looked like baby turtles without shells. They were pinkish, whitish, brownish in color. (Great description, huh?) I was so close to stealing some kid's bucket so I could catch one and look at it.

I think we arrived around 10:30am, and we left around 5pm. I ate a gyro, Polish water ice, boardwalk fries, pizza, and funnel cake, but the 5 miles I walked make up for all that, right? I got a Wildwood keychain (I needed a new one anyway), and a tshirt that is now covered in sand (just like everything else I took withme). I also put a bunch of sand from the beach into an empty water bottle.

By the way, does anyone have any good remedies for sunburn? *Laugh*

This is my favorite part of my job - going to shows. Not to point any fingers, or name any names, but a few other "music" publications that I'm aware of don't seem to enjoy the music. I see them out at shows, and they just don't seem like they're in it for the music.

Well, I am.

I'll spare you all the details (I reserve that for "Invalid Item . If you want to read all the details, let me know and I'll give you the passkey.)

The last band that played, Bridges and a Bottle, I absolutely adore! I talked to their road manager (Dylan?) during their set through the very loud music, and it was the best case of misunderstanding I've had yet.

I said to him, "We run a music magazine that supports Pennsylvania bands."

What he heard was, "We want to interview the band for our magazine."

So, we're going to set up an interview with them! Hey, that was my next thought, anyway.

A few photos of the band: (they're worth taking a look at, let me tell you!) *Wink*

Also, there are more Bridges and a Bottle photos here:

Unfortunately, The Drama Club couldn't play due to their singer being taken to the hospital. I didn't get any details, but I hope he's okay. *Worry*

Other than that, it was a really great night.

(I've got to remember to update this JoBlog thing. I apparently don't work for the newspaper anymore...)

I worked my ass off today (I even skipped lunch) to get the prototype for the magazine done!

It looks all spiffy, I must say, and I'm pretty happy with it. Of course, I'm going to have to rearrange everything to get the ads in there... I think it will be worth the effort, though. *Wink*

Fun show tonight, plus we'll be meeting a few potential advertisers! Yay! *Smile*

I spent most of the day reading and reviewing for "Invalid Item

I must suggest that if you like reviewing, you should join this challenge! There are a few spots open yet.

It's funny to me that I joined a reviewing challenge before even taking a look at the person's portfolio I was to review. What if I didn't like any of the items or they didn't appeal to me? Well, the gods must be looking out for me, because I absolutely loved everything I've read so far!

If you like dark fairytales or horror, please read this author: rowanhowler

I suggest starting with "Invalid Item .

Off to review some more. *Smile*

I get worried when we release the new issue and the featured band sends no reaction at all. I start to worry that they hate what we wrote about them, when in reality, I'm sure they didn't.

We're trying harder than ever to get the magazine into print. We're actually starting to contact potential advertisers today! We only need a few of them to be able to print up the magazine.

I also need to catch up on updating the shows list. I have a band to reply to... and I'm not sure how to reply. What the band is asking reminds me of something here on WDC. If you complain about not being preferred (or mod), the chances of being promoted to one tend to go down.

Speaking of mods, in the off-chance a mod who reads my blog hasn't seen this yet:

Nothing goes according to plan when you're running a magazine. Today's the first of the month, so our new issue is up and running.
(https://www.wordofmouthpa.com) *Wink*

Someone from the management company of that band from Italy has been trying to send me an email for a few days now, and for some reason, it just won't go through. So, it's not in the new issue, but I'm thinking we'll put it in the print version (as an extra), and then include it in next month's online issue.

For once, I didn't have a problem uploading the new issue. I think this is the first time ever that I didn't have problems with it.

Today we're getting together to design the layout of this month's issue for the print version. We looked into professional printers in the past and found them to be waaaaay out of our price range. We then looked at places like Kinkos and Staples, and even those were pricey ($7 per issue? I don't think so!), so we're going DIY. We're designing the layout ourselves and printing out the pages. We'll get photocopies made, and we'll bind the things ourselves. We did one test copy from last month's issue and it looks pretty good, actually.

You need to start somewhere, right? If we keep trying to wait until we have more money to do it totally professional, we'll be waiting a long time. This way we have room to grow, and I think people will like it. We've been called the indie version of an entertainment magazine, so DIY defnitely fits us, I think.

So, if you have a few minutes, check out our latest issue. We work hard on these, and we don't get any profit from them (yet). *Bigsmile*

(Again this has nothing to do with work. I'm a horrible job-blogger and I know it.)

My husband has been bringing home bugs for me from work. *Laugh*

He brought me the most beautiful butterfly a few weeks ago, and today he brought this:

http://static.flickr.com/49/146397616_d4d4b9d5c2_o.jpg

It's a luna moth. These beautiful creatures are born with no mouths, and they starve to death not too long after their born (anywhere from one to four weeks, from what I've read). *Shock*

Other women like flowers; I like bugs. *Bigsmile*
