The April 7, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is Today's a free day with no prompt, so blog on whatever your heart desires and have a marvelous day! olive boughs waving a partly cloudy Sunday clothes in the dryer dishes in the sink the sun cast deep dark shadows beautiful Sunday The April 7, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Do you remember when businesses closed on Sundays and it was a respected day of rest and worship? Write about Those Sundays, and compare it to how Sundays are spend now. When Sunday was a day of rest, we went to morning Services... Sunday school and Bible verses followed by Hell and Brimstone preaching. Or was it visa versa? When Sunday was a day of rest, Grandma never rested... she made Sunday dinner, washed the dishes, etc. while we finished homework assignments. When Sunday was a day of rest, my mother waited tables... a single Mom with four kids to feed she could not rest for long. When Sunday was our day of rest a neighbor woman bitched because Saturday was her day of rest, but Grandma's laundry day; she thought the neighbors show disrespect when they worked on the day she rested. I think I need a day of rest a day to relax away from the stress of modern civilization. Thought of the Day: “Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” ― Maya Angelou, Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now |
The April 6, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is What is your favorite game to play? I favorite game to play is the game of life, not the board game, but the real thing. My favorite game to watch is Jeopardy1, the reason I like to watch Jeopardy is because it reminds me of life. In Jeopardy, Alex Trebek (the best looking Canadian I've seen) gives contestants the answers and then the contestants have to respond with the question. Each day when a person wakes up, life provides the answers for the day, but the individual has to figure out the questions. Saturday morning's Answer: Trash and recyclable. The question: What do I have to lug to the curb before 6:30 AM? The April 6, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is "If you had a theme song accompanying your day today, what would it be when you walked into a room?" Thought for the Day: "Anyone who has begun to think, places some portion of the world in jeopardy." - John Dewey Footnotes |
The April 5, 2013 for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is We cry for lots of reasons: sadness, pain, fear . . . and happiness. When was the last time you shed tears of joy? Tears of joy and happiness wash dust from the mirror of my soul. When was the last time I shed tears of joy? There are four things that cause me to shed tears of joy and those are reading (1) a prayer revealed by Baha'u'llah, (2) a prayer revealed by The Bab, (3) a prayer written by 'Abdu'l-Baha, and (4) a poem. So to answer the question, I shed tears of joy last night because I read a prayer revealed by Baha'u'llah. Tears of happiness and joy, water the soil of my faith with sunbeams and rain drops. Tears of joy and happiness, shed by my grateful soul for the Glory of God. Food for thought: "Tears of joy are like the summer rain drops pierced by sunbeams." - Hosea Ballou |
The April 5, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Why sometimes bad things can be life openers? It's late Friday afternoon in Las Vegas and I spent at least four hours in my mechanic's reception room waiting for my car. The noise that I thought was a loose belt, was the breaks and a loose bolt (which I knew about in January). The breaks, loose bolt and the belt have been fixed, which means I can safely drive my car. Unfortunately, due to the expense I can't afford to drive the car this month. I have over half a tank of gas, which has to last a while, so I won't be going very far from home. I still have one prescription and some personal items I have to find the money for, but I don't have to deal with those until next week. I have aluminum cans in the trunk of my car that I can sell for a little bit of money; however, that money will go into my bank account. Why bad things are life openers? Bad things are always life openers, if a person is willing to take a deep breath and squelch the panic. When something bad happens it gives a person a chance to step back and take a look at his or her life. I allows the person to look at the negative thought process that may have contributed to the event. If negative thought process is not the problem then a person has to look at other reasons for the bad event. Sometimes bad things just happen because we live in a world were we have to deal with emotion, humans, and other living creatures. Let's face it, bad things are just a part of the can of life. Lately, I've began to suspect that bad things happen to push a person into reevaluating how and why she or he does things in a certain way. Bad things happen to show the individual a new way of doing things; to change a habit or a thought process that leads to insanity. A person can't do the same thing in the same over and over without getting the same results. If a person wants different results then change the input, try doing the action a different way or use a different thought process, so that you get a different results. I am not insane, all though I may not be completely sane. Each morning, I open a can of life, which doesn't have a label to find out if its contents are good or bad. Thought of the Day: “Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.” ― Narcotics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous |
The April 4, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is April is National Poetry Month - Write about what poetry means to you. Poetry echoes from my soul descending through mental corridors; electrical charges moving from dendrite to axon, from neuron to neuron... become line and stanza metaphor and simile. For me writing poetry is a way of dealing with my emotions. For me writing poetry is a way of breaking the events in my life to bite size pieces. For me writing poetry is an act of love. For me writing poetry is worshiping God. For me reading poetry is a connection to the past. For me reading poetry is a connection to the future. For me reading poetry is a connection to humanity. For me reading poetry is a connection to the divine. A poem is a breath my spirit exhaled. Food for Thought: "When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses." - John F. Kennedy |
The April 4, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a child. What became of it? Where, oh, where has my favorite doll gone, Oh, where, oh, where can she be? Is she buried under a cottonwood tree or in a toxic waste dump? The last time I saw my favorite baby doll was in the nursery of the Southern Baptist Mission in Blackwell, Oklahoma. That was ages and ages ago before the Blackwell2 Zinc Company closed in 1974. That was before Zinc Smelter land was give to the Blackwell Industrial Authority (BIA) and its soil repurposed, which caused toxic waste contamination of large areas of the city and the Chikaskia River. Therefore, I am presuming that my favorite baby doll is decomposing in a toxic waste dump somewhere in Oklahoma. It doesn't seem fair that my favorite doll, with the rest of my childhood toys and treasures, is buried beneath poisonous and toxic soil. All right, I realize that life isn't fair. Life isn't supposed to be fair because while my soul is traveling on the material plain they are supposed to be developing spiritual attributes. However, the least an old woman can ask is for her favorite doll to be treated with more respect. The least someone could have done was give the doll a proper burial or cremation instead of letting it rot in a toxic waste dump. Thought of the Day: "Keep talking about moving toxic wastes, but never let it cross your mind to quit producing them. Keep Judging yourselves in Manson. Don't look in the mirror. You will serve the Earth as much as she serves you or you will commit suicide." - Lynette Fromme Footnotes |
The April 3, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Hold your hands out in front of you, palms down. Imagine that you have a total of six strings tied around your fingers. Write about the objects that are dangling from the strings. Considering that my memory has been a bit mudgy3 lately the strings are probably to remind me of missing sections of my memory. My memory issues are sketchy, little sections of memories that should be there but are missing or items I have laid down and then forgotten where I put them. Sometimes I get the feeling that I am looking at a jigsaw puzzle with pieces missing. These missing memories frighten me because I don't know whether I am dealing with normal issues of stress or an indication of Alzheimer's. Strings of memory Colored threads holding objects Important to me My prayer beads because I lay them down and sometimes forget where I put them My prayer book because sometimes I put it in my purse and forget in which section I placed it My medication with the times I am supposed to take the tablets each day My coffee cup with a note telling me I am supposed to wash it every day A note telling me how much cash I spent on any specific day A note reminding me to write down the poem or story idea before I forget it Food for Thought: "Every composer knows the anguish and despair occasioned by forgetting ideas which one had no time to write down." - Hector Berlioz Footnotes |
The April 3, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is If you needed it, would you use medical treatments that skirt the edge of legality, such as certain herbal treatments, or medical marijuana (depending on your state)? Would I use edgy or unprecedented medical treatments if necessary? The answer to this question is "I don't know" or "It depends". My decision would depend on what my doctor said, on what the doctor I consulted for a second opinion said, on what available medical studies revealed about the results of the treatment, whether or not my medical insurance would pay part of the cost, and, last but not least, prayer. I believe that healing comes through two methods. One method is material, so I have to consult a doctor to see what she or he says about any type of purposed treatment or medication. The second method of healing is spiritual, which comes through prayer or connecting with the Creator. I believe both of these methods are necessary for the healing of an individual. I believe that these methods should be used in conjunction rather then separately so that the patient has the best chance of recovery. Each day say a healing prayer for those who are ill; supplicate the Lord and ask a blessing for the doctor. Thought of the Day: "There are two ways of healing sickness, material means and spiritual means. The first is by the use of remedies, of medicines; the second consists in praying to God and in turning to Him. Both means should be used and practiced." - `Abdu'l-Baha: Baha'i World Faith, Pages 375-376 |
The April 2, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is What expert do you wish could come teach you what they know? Expert "a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority"4. An expert cannot teach me or anyone else anything unless there is a willingness to learn. I can consult an expert, consider what that expert has to say, and decided if I accept what that expert has to say. If I do not find the expert's opinion or knowledge believable then I can consult another expert on the subject or I can experiment or find some other way to learn about the subject on my own. What subject would I like to consult an expert concerning? I have an endless list of subjects I could discuss with various experts. However, the first thing I need to know about the expert is the narrowness of his or her expertise. The next thing I need to know is did the expert come to his or her conclusions through experimentation or reading about the subject. Once I determine those to things, then I can decide whether or not I want to consult the expert. Consulting an expert is find, but each individual needs to investigate truth for him or herself. If I just take an experts word, then I am not learning anything, I am not using my brains, and I am not using the free will God gave me. I can consult a dozen different experts on any subject and receive a dozen different "expert opinions", but none of those opinions do me any good unless I can apply them to a situation in my life. Expert opinion is necessary with a bit of salt and pepper. Food for Thought: "Observe, record, tabulate, communicate. Use your five senses. Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell, and know that by practice alone you can become expert." - William Osler Footnotes |
The April 2, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Write about your first school dance, first date, or first friend. It is a first I want to forget, expunge it from my memory: Why am I writing about it if I want to forget? The weird thing about my memory is the way it works. Things that I want to remember I tend to forget, while the things I want to forget I tend to remember. My memory works like a two year old whose mother tells her not to play in the cat's litter box. As soon as Mama's back is turned, the kid is playing in the cat's litter box. I mean, when you hear about it you don't want to laugh because Mama should have known better then to tell the kid not to do it. At two, the first thing a child will do when Mama's back is turned is to do what Mama just told her not to do. It is a first I want to forget, but I can't expunge it from my memory: so I may as well write about my first date, about the first time I was stood up. What lead up to this fiasco? I said yes to a high school acquaintance, when I should have said "No!" Anyway, to make a long story short or a short story long, I said "Yes, I will go out with you." On prearranged night, I took my second shower of the day (after all it was my first date), put on my prettiest pink poodle skirt (the only poodle skirt I ever owned), my prettiest pink blouse (maybe this is why I don't wear pink any more), and waited for him to arrive. I waited. I waited. I waited. I waited... etc. Needless to write, he didn't arrive. I was disappointed at the time and, I suspect, I am still disappointed today. However, I am not sure why I am disappointed. Am I disappointed because I was stood up? Am I disappointed because I did not confront him? Thinking back over the situation, and the fact that he is either still serving time in prison (he got a life sentence for something he did after he was discharged from the army) or dead, I am probably lucky he stood me up. Thought of the Day: "I trusted you, but now your words mean nothing because your actions spoke the truth." - Author Unknown |
The April 1, 2013 prompt for the unofficial "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" by ember_rain is Today is April Fool's day... Find out a bit about Tom Fool and the History behind April Fool's Day then tell us about the best prank you ever pulled or ever had pulled on you. Tom Fool brings back memories. That is name or rather a phrase which I have not thought about in decades. My Grandpa Newland would use that phrase when one or more of his grandchildren (my sibling or I) would act foolish or do something foolish. His phrase was, "Don't be such a Tom Fool!" Tomfool, according to dictionary.com is derived from the old English phrase "Thome Fool" and means "Tom the fool"5. This phrase refers to a person who exhibits the attributes of a tomfool and also defined as "a grossly foolish or stupid person; a silly fool"6. As a side note, Tom Fool was also the name of a bay stallion, a thoroughbred racehorse, (1949-1976) whose dam was Gaga and sire Menow7. Now that I have the tomfoolry over with, let me get on with the known or suspected history of April Fool's Day (also known as All Fools Day). April Fool's Day has a somewhat ambiguous history because it could have resulted from the switch, in 1852, from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar8 or it could have another origin, such as the Roman festival of Hilaria9. The truth is that I do not think the origin of All Fools Day is as important as the pranks, the hilarity, or jokes that occur because this day is devoted to laughter and the human race does not laugh as much as it should. Humans are much too serious and a day devoted to laughter is a good way to overcome this problem. What is the best prank I have ever pulled or has been pulled on me? I have already answered this question in an earlier entry today, so rather then rewrite what I have already written; I am going to post a link to "April Fools Day: To prank or not to prank" . On April Fool's Day go out and make someone laugh or make a fool of yourself. Food for Thought: "When in doubt, make a fool of yourself." - Cynthia Heimel Footnotes |
The April 1, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is It's a day for pranksters! What's the best/worst prank you ever pulled off? If you're not a prankster, what was the best/worst (depends how you look at it) prank ever pulled on you? On April Fools Day All the fools come out to play Pranks on all their friends. To prank or not to prank, that is the question. My answer is "No, I do not prank." I enjoy hearing about the pranks other people play and I like to watch videos and shows about pranking. One of my favorite shows is Betty White's Off Their Rockers in which senior citizens prank young people. Happy All Fools Day To the pranksters of the world Make me laugh today. What is the best or worst prank someone every pulled on me? April Fools Day was not a big thing in our family and none of the pranks (I am sure my brothers tried to pull on me) stand out in my memory. I can remember one of the pranks my Grandfather said he and his friends pulled on Halloween when he was a teenager. They put a neighbor's horse and carriage on top of the neighbor's roof; I am sure it was a Halloween prank and not an April Fools Day prank because Grandpa always told the story on Halloween. Be an April Fool Do something funny and cool And make someone laugh. Thought of the day: "It is the ability to take a joke, not make one, that proves you have a sense of humor." ~Max Eastman |
The March 31, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is FREE DAY: Today is a free day so blog about whatever your heart desires! It is the last Sunday in March 2013, early Easter Sunday and Easter services are in progress throughout the Las Vegas area. My breakfast this morning consisted of a chocolate Easter bunny with hot coffee. I always eat a chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday, it is a habit I acquired as a child and that, even though I no longer celebrate Easter, I have continued into my adulthood. There are two reason I eat a chocolate bunny every Easter: (1) this is the only time of year I can purchase a chocolate bunny and (2) eating one brings back memories of my childhood. It is the memories that the chocolate Easter bunny brings; memories of sitting next to my Grandmother in church as she sings... On the last Sunday in March 2013, I eat my entire solid chocolate bunny for breakfast, which according to the nutritional facts on the box is three servings of chocolate. This sounds like a lot, but considering what happened last year at Easter it is not. Last year, which was my mother's last Easter breakfast, Mom ate only one third of her bunny (which was one serving) and I ended up eating the rest over the month of April. I suppose I should have known that would be Mom's last Easter bunny because she normally ate her entire chocolate bunny for breakfast and lunch. Today, I ate my bunny slowly while I drink coffee and read the morning paper. half moon shining down a nightingale singing Easter Sunday dawn the house is silent soul receptive to God's word Sunday morning dawn my prayers intoned God's protection unfailing Sunday morning peace coffer maker singing chocolate Easter bunny Sunday morning treat It is the last Sunday 2013, tomorrow is Monday, April 1; tomorrow is April Fools Day. What are the important dates I have to remember in April? There are two nineteen-day feast in April, the Feast of Jalál (Glory) is after sunset on April 8 and the Feast of Jamál (Beauty) is after sunset on April 27. Then the First day of Riḍván (a Holy Day) begins at sunset on April 20 and ends at sunset on April 21, while the Ninth day of Riḍván (another Holy Day) begins at sunset on April 28 and ends at sunset on April 29. At this point, I think those are the only days I have to take note of in April; hopefully, by the time they arrive, I will have some idea of the blog entry I am going to post. Thought of the Day: "Put your blog out into the world and hope that your talent will speak for itself." - Diablo Cody |
The March 30, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is It's Spring in the northern hemisphere, and traditionally time for spring cleaning! Is there anything in your life that needs to be cleaned up or cleaned out? Where do I begin with my spring cleaning binge? What is the first thing in my life that I need to purge? I need to purge the negativity, a spiritual spring cleaning is necessary, required for a prosperous and a joyous New Year. Naw-Ruz is past, Ridvan approaches, I need to stop and take a deep spiritual breath; I need to inhale the fresh aroma wafting from the scriptures revealed by the Glory of God. I need to rid my spirit, my heart, and my thoughts of "whatever is impure or undesirable"10; physical life is too short to hold on to outdated notions and superstitions that retard my soul's progress in its journey through all the worlds of God. Spiritual cleaning is not a short bout "of excessive indulgence"11 in the elixir of life, the wine of Divine revelation; rather it is the daily practice of prayer, meditation, bringing myself to account, and once a year reestablishing my goals. Food for Thought: "O SON OF SPIRIT! My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting. " - Bahá’u’lláh, The Hidden Words of Bahá’u’lláh, from the Arabic, Page 3, #1 Footnotes |
The March 30, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Serial Experience – Part Two: Recall a short anecdote from your daily life this past month. It can have a moral or not, be humorous or mundane, it doesn’t matter. On the first day (yesterday), write the story from your point of view. On the second day (today), write the story from the perspective of an inanimate object or animal which was present in the previous entry. Here I rest in a blue recyclable bin, waiting to be of use again; a glass turntable without a working microwave is as useful as a water barrel missing a stave. I am waiting for someone to take me in out of this freezing recyclable bin, I want someone to reuse me as a tray to hold crackers and brie. After my microwave oven died, I set on a table and sparkled with pride, Knowing that somehow I would be reused, Resting in this blue bin I feel abused. Thought of the Day: "Recycling is a good thing to do. It makes people feel good to do it. The thing I want to emphasize is the vast difference between recycling for the purpose of feeling good and recycling for the purpose of solving the trash problem." -- Barry Commoner |
The March 29, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Serial Experience – Part One: Recall a short anecdote from your daily life this past month. It can have a moral or not, be humorous or mundane, it doesn’t matter. On the first day, write the story from your point of view. On the second day (tomorrow), write the story from the perspective of an inanimate object or animal which was present in the previous entry. My life is full of serial experiences on day follows another repetition is a part of life a component of humanity's mundane material and physical existence. The dishes need to be done, the laundry washed and dried, the recyclables lugged to the garage, the trash carried out, etc. etc. etc.... Serial Experience – Part One There are three recyclable bins in my garage. The first is white, it is for newspapers, the second is red, it is for plastics and cans, and the third is blue, it is for glass. Since I am going to move to a smaller place, I am in the process of downsizing. This means I either have to give away stuff, throw it out or put it in the recyclable bin. I had a glass turntable from an old microwave sitting on the dining room table. I am not sure why I kept it when the microwave went kaput, I think it was one of those notions that seemed like a good idea at the time. Perhaps I was going to sit it in the middle of the dining room table to sit something on. Who knows why I kept it because I have no idea what I planned to do with it. Anyway after careful thought, I decided I did not want to lug it to the storage unit and then to the new apartment because it is something I have no use for. I put it in the glass recyclable bin, which I will carry to the curb next Saturday. |
The March 29, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is If you could be any fictional character in the world, who would you choose to be? Why? What fictional character would I chose to be? I would chose to be Arwen Undomiel for several reasons. First, Arwen is a strong woman, not like the strong women author's envision today, she was a strong woman because she made the hard choice. Knowing that her choice to love and marry Aragon would make her a mortal woman, she still chose to marry him. Of her own free will, she chose to give up her elven immortality for love and this is the sign of a strong woman. If I could be a fictional character, I would be Arwen Undomiel, Arwen Evenstar; fair elven maid she made the choice of love and died a mortal woman. Thought of the Day: “The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings My Thoughts on Choice It is choice, free will, that sets human beings apart from all other animals and gives the human spirit immortality. Each day we must chose between acts of love and faith or fear and doubt; it is the choice of love that gives hope, faith, and eternal life to the human soul. |
The March 28, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is Do you believe our dreams have a meaning or purpose? What is your opinion on dream interpretation? Have you ever tried to interpret your dreams? Do I believe my dreams have a meaning or purpose? Yes, I believe dreams have both a meaning and a purpose. The purpose of a dream can be to review the days events. A dream can give an author ideas for a story, poem, or novel. Another purpose of a dream is to give an individual warnings of future events either in the individual's own life or about events going to happen in the world. An example of a dream foretelling upcoming events in my life were the dreams I had before going through menopause. Every month, precisely three days before my period began, I dreamed it started. I am not saying that the dreams were pleasant because in the dream the either bathroom toilet was stopped up or I could not find any of the pads I needed, but the dream did give me warning that I was about to become a bitch. What is my opinion on dream interpretation? Dream interpretation is possible because dreams are meant to help us through the tests and difficulties we face everyday of our lives. However, I do think that when interpreting a dream a person needs to look at both the traditional meaning of a dream symbol and any personal meaning that symbol may contain in the individual's past life experiences. Dream interpretation is not easy nor is it for the faint of heart. Dreams, when interpreted properly, can assist a person's spiritual development and growth in other areas of life, but one has to want to know the truth that dreams reveal and not be afraid of what one discovers. Have my ever tried to interpret your dreams? Yes, I have tried to interpret my dreams and sometimes I have succeeded. I attempt to keep track of all my dreams, but sometimes I do not remember them. I write down the dreams I remember, please see "Dreams of Snow " [13+]. The birds are singing. Do I remember hearing them in last night's dreams? Food for Thought: "Dreams may contain ineluctable truths, philosophical pronouncements, illusions, wild fantasies, memories, plans, anticipations, irrational experiences, even telepathic vision, and heaven knows what besides." ~ Carl Jung |
The March 28, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is The Easter Bunny wants to know: what is it that motivates you in your life? According to dictionary.com there are three definitions of motivation12 which are 1. the act or an instance of motivating, or providing with a reason to act in a certain way: 2. the state or condition of being motivated: 3. something that motivates; inducement; incentive: Synonyms used in conjunction with the first definition are inspiration, inducement, impetus, motive, and cause, so motivation has material, spiritual, financial, and physical factors. This explains why different things motivate me on different days and at different times in my life. however, after contemplating this all night and saying my morning prayers, I have come to the conclusion that there is one overriding motivation in my life. The tests and difficulties I encounter everyday of my life motivate me. They push me to go beyond the limits of my fear, negativity, and pain of my mundane existence to discover my true self. These tests and difficulties push me to discover what I am truly capable of accomplishing. Without these tests and difficulties the mirror of my soul would remain unpolished and my talents undeveloped. Along with those two things is prayer and meditation because without those I would not be able to function on a daily basis. These are my motivations tests, difficulties, prayer, and meditation. Through these things my soul is polished and I pass beyond the limitations of the possible. Thought of the Day: "The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible." - Arthur C. Clarke Footnotes |
The March 27, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is What is your favorite holiday home-cooked meal? Describe it in detail. My favorite holiday home-cooked meal depends on whether I am doing the cooking or someone else is preparing the meal. There are certain foods that I avoid cooking again. I will not cook a turkey; however, I will go to someone else's house and eat a turkey that person has cooked. The holiday items that I like and will prepare myself are dressing, a game hen, cranberry sauce, black eyed peas, fruit salad, green salad, cake, and whole bean coffee. My favorite home-cooked meal (which I can cook myself) consist of black eye peas, cranberry sauce, whole bean coffee, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and a Cornish game hen. I begin the day before by washing the black eyed peas and then letting them soak overnight in the slow cooker. The next morning, I turn on the slow cooker, then I put in a ham bone and jalapeño peppers. While the black eyed peas are cooking I grind the coffee beans and begin brewing the coffee. After that I fix the cranberry sauce and dressing. I then mix the cake and put it in the microwave for about nine minutes. Once those are finished, I stuff the the Cornish hen with either mushroom or fruit and put it in the microwave to cook. While the bird is in the microwave, I frost the cake. I do not put bread stuffing in the hen. My biggest problem when it comes to cooking is that I cannot cook for just one person and it does not matter if it is a holiday or not. Therefor, I usually end up having an intimate dinner for two, three, or four people by myself. This is probably the reason I end up going out to eat on a holiday because it is less fattening then an intimate dinner for two. I enjoy cooking. I am a creative cook. I cook enough food to feed three or four people. Comfort food cooking inhale love's spicy perfume and fresh brewed coffee. Food for thought: My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four; unless there are three other people. - Orson Welles |
