I just wanted to add a few details that FG might have left out.

The order of colors is:

clear (Registered User)
black (Registered Author)
yellow (Preferred Author)
blue (Moderator)
purple (Senior Moderator)
white (Member who has passed away)

The above had red cases and are the only ones because they are the ones who run the site. No member, I believe, can be upgraded to that case color.

For every color upgrade, you receive points that count towards your "Community Recognitions," the number next to your handle.

You can also "refer" members to the site by having them view your port and then join up. If you click on my number, you will see that I have referred quite a few members!

You can also "move up" your numbers by being a member for a few years. Every year counts for 5 "points."
