Salvation is not by works at all but by faith. Ephesians 2:8-10 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." You see, we are not saved by our works. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is because we are saved that we do good works. Also, no one is "good". God's standards to get into heaven are perfection, which no one can fulfill. Romans 3:22-24 says, "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." No one is good enough to get to heaven. That's why Jesus came. That was the whole point. He came to die and provide the ultimate sacrifice so that those who would believe in him and have faith in him could be saved and receive salvation. That was the whole point. You can't add anything to that. |
