Have you considered the possibility tha Long is his own antagonist? Though circumstances have driven him to his choices, they were still choices. Is this the story of those choices? Is it possible that a different protagonist would have made different choices? Are there genetic or environmental factors that might have driven this particular character to the choices ultimately makes?
