October Novel Prep Challenge

Shoot shoot shoot!

Last week I was totally mind-blocked on the the 3 prep tasks on setting. I had originally envisioned one of two fairly interchangeable western US cities for the setting, then got distracted by a totally different midwestern city. Changing city would mean changing background elements like family businesses, career goals, etc. I finally put that aside and moved on to this week.

I'm moving along okay, thinking ahead while still considering setting, and suddenly a story with a main protagonist, secondary character, and minor character (along with antagonist, of course) broke into a story with TWO protagonists and a minor character ... and then THREE protagonists, each with their own voices, and it's turning into one of those stories where different chapters are in the voices of different characters, and I've gone from something that maybe, if it had an HEA (it was undecided), was just a couple, is now moving to a ménage. And I'm looking at my characters and going, what the heck, y'all, what are you DOING?

I just want to round these children back up and send them to their rooms, but I suspect they'll sneak out and be up to mischief. And I still don't know in what doggone city.
