If someone learns from a mistake, was it really a mistake?

I think it depends of the circumstances of the mistake. Sometimes it is a lack of knowledge when learned is not repeated. Other times, someone may be testing something someone told them to find truth. Or Other times a person may be ignoring the little voice in your brain, that says do it my way.
