It's about a team of rowers who were chosen to represent the USA in the 1936 Olympic Games. They were an unlikely team since they did not attend an ivy league university and no one expected them to do any good in the games. I'll allow you to imagine the result - sort of an American Cool Runnings but with a better ending. It's the kind of thing I really enjoy - the result of meticulous research that produces a painstakingly detailed account that, thanks to the skill of the writer, remains utterly fascinating.
