Absolutely agree on all counts. And when Steinman wrote for Meat Loaf, the result was usually magical (Meat reprised Rock and Roll Dreams on one of his later albums, too.)

At one point, there was talk of Steinman collaborating with Andrew Lloyd Webber on a Broadway musical about vampires. I think "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was meant for that project, which obviously never happened because New York City still exists and didn't get sucked into a massive black hole of melodrama.
