Avi Loeb probably thinks being associated with Harvard gives his whackjob opinions the weight of expertise. Instead, what's happening is he's destroying what reputation Harvard still has.

Dismissing "aliens did it" out of hand is just as big a mistake as jumping to that conclusion in the first place, but he goes too far in the "jumping to conclusions" direction.
