You panic and just try to get away. This turns out to be not to good an idea. A sudden rush of wind throws you off your feet. Before you can recollect yourself, you feel yourself lifted and thrown up, as the sparrow picks you up. You land on its rough tongue, which is wet and sticky with its saliva. Everything is darker, but you can still see some things. Then the sparrow swallows.
You are being pushed to the back of the beak and there is nothing you can onto. The sensation is rough and painful and you feel as if you were being torn apart. After only a short slide through a rather narrow tube (still more than large enough to let you through), you land in a pool of liquid in what seems to be a leathery sack. In spite of there being no light source, you are able to see that your prison has rather smooth walls and is some three or four yards long. Its entire floor is covered by a hip- deep pool of sticky saliva and a headless cockroach is lying at the other end. As you further examine the saliva, you notice some stone fragments that are also there.
The air is stale, but there isn't any hint at stomach acids or anything. Judging from what little you know about birds, this must be the sparrows crop. So you are just another meal awaiting final processing. Somehow, you don't like that idea, but there is little you can do about it but wait for the sparrows next move (besides gulping down some more food stuff, that is). What will happen next?
