"Excuse me," said a voice from the mouth of the den, "is this space taken?"
"Y..." Shenzi began, meaning to say, 'yes it is', but the words died on her tongue as the gazed at the new arrival, a seriously handsome male.
"Oh, right," the male said, "sorry about that, I'll be going then."
"No," Shenzi said, "no, I mean, sorry, yes, it's sorta taken, but you can sleep here as well, if you want." Her brain didn't seem to have been involved in any of the statement, all too taken up in analysing the newcomer's looks.
"Well thank you," the male said approaching. Seemingly unaware of the effect he was having on Shenzi, he said, "you're staring."
At this point Shenzi managed to regain some self control, and tore her eyes away. She spent a few moments gathering her thoughts and making sure her heartbeat was back to normal, before replying, "sorry, it's just that you're so, so..."
"Yes," the newcomer asked, "I'm so, what?"
"Handsome," Shenzi finally managed to blurt out, "I've never seen a more handsome hyena than you."
"A lot of females have said that to me," the newcomer said, "but never really any in such, obvious, positions of power."
"Obvious," Shenzi asked, still refusing to look at the newcomer in case her brain stopped working again.
"Quite obvious, yes," the newcomer said, "after all, I can't imagine a normal hunter could eat so generously as you."
"Well I am quite powerful, yes," Shenzi said, then finally got it together enough to ask, "who are you anyway, where are you from?"
"My name's Pendeza," the newcomer replied, "I've only recently arrived here from another pack, in fact I was just looking for somewhere to sleep when I came across this place."
"I guess I should welcome you then," Shenzi said, "my name's Shenzi by the way."
"Well I'm pleased to meet you Shenzi," Pendeza said, "and I'd like to thank you for offering me a place in your humble abode."
"Well I have to admit, it's been getting a bit lonely at night," Shenzi said, "my friends seem to be sleeping elsewhere more and more these days."
"Their loss," Pendeza said, lying down next to Shenzi, then asked, "do you mind if I share your meal right now?"
"Not at all," Shenzi replied, shifting the gazelle carcass to a position where Pendeza could get at it more easily, "go ahead."
"Thank you again for your hospitality," Pendeza said, "I'll be sure to make it up to you later."
