Pam took a deep breath, and let out a sort of strangled laugh as she tried to control herself. Then, she sat down on Kody's bed.
"Come here, honey," she said. And Kody sat down, too. "I wasn't sure how to tell you this, but...well I guess you're old enough to know...Honey, you're an alien..."
"A WHAT!?"
Pam jumped as Kody shouted the last two words.
"Ah, well...I mean, to the people on the planet Earth, you are," she said, quickly. "Kody, honey, listen to me. A little over thirteen years ago, I moved here from our own planet. In fact our planet's a lot like Earth, one of the reasons I came here. We look exactly like the people on Earth. You can't tell us apart. But the chemicals and minerals and the atmosphere on our planet means we're born with special powers. It means we can do stuff that normal earthlings can't."
"It...It does?" he asked.
Pam nodded. "Normally they don't come around until you're well into your teens, but in rare cases, kids develop these powers early. It usually comes after puberty's set in," she said.
"Oh..." said Kody. He looked sad. Pam smiled and gave her son a hug, "Now honey, don't worry! You'll still be able to lead a perfectly normal life! I married dad..."
"You mean we can marry other...uh...Earthlings and like, have kids and stuff?" Kody asked.
Pam nodded, "We're exactly the same, except for our little...bonus skills. And any kids we have inherit our powers, which is why you have them, sweetie," she said, and gave her son a kiss. Kody cringed, he felt he was getting a bit old for kisses.
"Oh," said Kody again. "Well...this is pretty cool..."
His mother smiled, "It is, but be careful with your powers honey. And don't tell ANYONE. Not even your dad knew before he died. If you tell someone...well who knows what might happen."
"What other powers do I have?" Kody asked.
"Depends," said Pam. "You'll discover more as you grow up, or they might come to you all at once. It's a matter of experimenting, honey." she said.
"Now," Pam got up, "Time for dinner..."
