Classes hadn't started yet, so only the truly hard core were in the gym today. Most of those - football players - were off in the weight room. A couple of cheerleaders and gymnasts had the mats out and were doing routines. Dennis and Gina moved toward a part of the gym not seeing use today.
"That's Trish, she's the head cheerleader this year, so she's the one you'll want to impress.", Dennis told her.
"Good to know. Oh - the rings, ya know I was pretty good at these back in high school. Give me a boost?"
Dennis helped Gina jump up to grab the rings and watched her start her body swinging and get herself through a forward flip.
"Hey, get a picture of me on these that I can send to my sister and show her my start as a college athlete."
Dennis raised the camera and looking through it, his thoughts of Gina's amazing athleticism took over and he saw through the camera Gina holding herself in a perfect Maltese Cross (body parallel to the ground - arms straight out to side), a move Dennis remembered seeing once on the Olympics - rather than Gina hanging below the rings trying hard not to show the stress in her arms like was really going on. Dennis was too focused on the taut biceps showing in the camera image to notice that it did not reflect reality. He snapped the picture and heard a gasp from Gina.
When he lowered the camera she was still holding herself in a perfect Maltese Cross - no signs of shakiness in her arms at all. It was a flawlessly held move which Dennis had thought of because he was thinking it would show off Gina's skill as a college athlete. Dennis was, of course, not really familiar with gymastics and so did not know that this was a strength element with a high degree of difficulty. Nor did he know that the rings were not a normal event for women because their center of gravity was not well suited to the performance of the strength elements making them substantially more difficult for women then for men.
He applauded - it seemed the right thing to do. Gina, feeling renewed strength in her arms, but still in shock at her sudden move up into a maneuver she'd never even tried before much less apparently mastered, swung out of the move and dismounted.
