If there was one thing Varieo wasn't, it was a runner. Though he was of medium build it was all mostly upper body. Sweat dripped down his gray T-shirt and navy blue cargo pants. He huffed and puffed through the alleyways of Myaiu City as fast as he could. If the track coach could see him now, he'd probably consider letting him join for once.
"I'm going to be late...I'm going to be late...I'm going to be late..." He chanted to himself, jumping over trash cans.
Then a big obstacle made an appear. A chain fence stood between Varieo and the street to his school. He could easily climb over it, but it was what had it's foot stuck in the fence that proved a greater challenge.
"A cat...a bloody cat..." He said to himself as an orange kitten desperately tried to claw it's way out of the chains.
Varieo hated cats. His aunt kept dozens of the fur balls around the house when he was a kid. They were nasty things and did everything to him; from spitting hairballs on him while asleep to knocking over a bucket of water onto his head. He HATED cats, which was odd considering what a kindhearted person he was. And it was this same stupid kindness that was forcing him to help free the entangled kitty.
"Alright now....Here kitty, kitty...I'm not going to hurt you...That's it...Now let me just grab your little paw here and...What the?! OW-OUCH! The stupid thing scratched me!"
The orange tabby cat took off in a flash, leaving Varieo to suck the blood oozing from his carved hand. Three giant claw marks had been cut into his hand, very deeply. He was in pain, but he was already late. Turning to the fence he muttered to himself.
Varieo had already missed his first class, barging into his second period class earned him a glare from his teacher. He took his seat next to his friend Bloono, who as always was chewing on a stick of celery. Bloono didn't even bother to ask why he was late, which was good considering the mood Varieo was in. The cut had developed some sort of odd pus, making it looked infected.
"Just my luck." Varieo thought to himself. "That cat probably had rabies or something...I probably need to get a shot now."
He took his handkerchief out and wrapped the wound up. Allowing him to return his attention to class. The rest of the day went fairly normal, he chatted with his friends who showed some concern when they saw his bandaged hand. It was nice to know they cared enough to ask. He decided that he would go to the nurse after lunch to have her take a look at it.
However, when lunch did finally come around Varieo felt something odd...
