You left the gun at home.

"Crap..." you think to yourself, realizing that you completely forgot to pick the gun up and left it sat on a small table near your front door before you left. "Never mind" you think, might as well just get on with the party...

Back home.....

With the lid off the box that, the water-gun sat there, tantalizingly inviting anybody in view to come and use it. As it happens, nobody actually noticed it for a while. The strange device which landed on the doorstep had the ability to transform the size of a person. When water was poured into it, the gun enhanced the water to provide either increased or decreased size, weight, muscle mass, height etc in equal measure.

A short while went by before somebody did eventually pick up the gun.
