After a few minutes of oohing and ahhing over your brother, the teens all said goodbye and headed off down the beach. Waving at them, Alex turned to you and smiled. "Now I understand why you always used to work out. It sure is nice to get some attention like that every once in a while."
You stare at him, nearly dumbfounded. "Once in a while? How often has this happened? For that matter, how long have you been like this?"
He laughs and shakes his head. "Geez, Justin, where have you been? The Gilgamesh project has been going on for over a year now."
You do some quick, simple math in your head. "You mean, you've been like this since you were eleven? That can't be true! I've seen you in the past year, and you were no bigger than an average kid your age. A little on the small side, actually."
Alex places his thick arm around your shoulder and pulls you closer to him. "Don't go jumping too far ahead now, bro. You're right, it took a while for any of the effects to become noticeable. But about six months ago -- BAM! Once these babies started, there was no stopping them." He took the arm on the opposite side from you, flexed the bicep, and gave it a quick kiss of admiration.
"Six months?!" You try to think back. Surely you've seen Alex within that time frame -- though as you try to remember, you find that details from the last half a year have become very hazy in your memory. You remember celebrating Alex's 11th birthday last June, then the rest of the school year -- but everything since the beginning of this calendar year seems to be missing in details. Could it really be true? If so, was the chunks of your memory that seemed to be missing related somehow?
"Hang on." Alex stops walking, his hand holding your shoulder firmly, stopping you as well. You turn and look at him, and he seems to have a somewhat queasy look on his face, his hand holding his stomach.
A sense of brotherly concern washes over you. "Alex, are you okay?" You secretly hope that he's not about to blow chunks or something all over the beach.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he says, but the weakness in his voice does nothing to quell your worries. "This has happened before. It's actually a good--"
He stops mid-sentence, his body suddenly jerking straight up, his arms suddenly being held outward, as if being forced by some invisible presence, either internal or external, you're not sure which. As you stare at him dumbfounded, you are shocked to see Alex suddenly start to grow. His body expands both upward and outward, his short-but-powerful frame stretching into an impressive, imposing figure. His muscles on his chest and arms get even bigger, adding onto what already could be considered super-human physique. Your eyes involuntarily travel down to his feet, which have seemingly ditched the sandals he was wearing earlier and are now bare, and much larger than yours you notice, even factoring in his larger height, which now is greater than even yours. Looking back up at his face, you notice that it seems to be developing a little as well, giving Alex the appearance of being slightly older - not quite your age yet, but nonetheless a young teenage god, instead of the preteen hunk he had been before. During this entire transformation, you begin to pick up that Alex is moaning slightly, a monotone, low-pitched sound coming from his throat. You aren't sure whether that's a sign of pleasure, pain, or something in between.
Finally, after what seemed to be a lifetime, the transformation stopped. Alex's body seemed to slump over a bit, his shoulder's sagging, and his head turned down. You rush up to him, momentarily taken aback by how intimidating he is up close, especially now that you have to look up to him, as he rises above you by a couple of head-lengths. But he's still your brother, goddammit, and if he looks like he's in trouble, you're going to do whatever it takes to help him.
"Alex!" you exclaim. "Are you all right?! What just happened?"
"Ughhh…" he is still moaning, his eyes not having opened up yet. He seems to be teetering a little, swaying back and forth, but manages to keep his balance. "That was…" he pauses, trying to find the right word. "…a lot different than before."
You don't quite know what to say yet, so you remain silent as you make sure Alex doesn't need any medical attention. He eventually opens his eyes and looks down at you. His eyes seem to softly light up when he sees your concern, and a half-smile forms on his face. "Thanks, Justin," he says, his voice powerful, but you can tell it's still a fraction of what it could be with his current size and strength.
As he begins to regain his composure, he begins to look down at his body, and he seems to be as surprised as you by how he has transformed. "Whoa…" his voice trails off as he looks at both his front and backside, his large hands running across the swimming trunks that had stretched out completely and were on the verge of breaking and leaving him naked. "This is way more than anything that's happened before!"
"Yeah," you nod in agreement. "Not only are you more muscular, you're taller and older-looking too."
"Wow." Alex still is in shock, but he seems to be gradually becoming excited about what happened. "I haven't taken part in any of the Gilgamesh treatment for over a month. I wonder why this is suddenly starting to happen now…"
Alex contemplates this for a moment, and you step back, glad that your brother is okay. You don't have too long to stay relieved, however, as after a minute, something unexpected happens.
