Chapter #5

Loyalty

by: Max Eclipscia Author IconMail Icon
It seems like you're about to prematurely use Earthquake like an idiot as you start lowering your foot, but instead, you make a mad dash toward your Charmander client with the intention of protecting him from the horde of the Infected on your own. You hear your Aggron commander yell in a harsh, unforgiving tone, "Guardian, you will return to the front line at once if you value your hide!" as you run with surprising speed toward the Charmander and yell, "Max!! Hurry up! They're starting!!" It seems that the Charmander finds a second wind and speeds up when he hears you call him by name, and with unintended motivation from you, Max manages to outrun the Infected in about five minutes, albeit barely so, as he hides behind your bulky body.

You know that there is no time to waste before the Rhyperiors of the front line initiate their unified Earthquake attack in an effort to create an impassible trench that will keep the land-based infected at bay, so you easily pick up your magically inclined client and set him on your shoulder to face the incoming Infected before you run back toward the front line. As you figured, more of the Sableyes were rushing to you as you made your desparate dash, but Max easily and swiftly dispatched the incoming Infected scouts with a few Flame Bursts, and the backlash from the Fire attacks did absolutely nothing to slow you down or offer inconvenience. Max may have been doing well, and you may have been closing in on the Rhyperiors, but a Salamence was closing in on you, and the Infected front line was gaining ground. The mage on your shoulder easily froze the incoming Salamence with an Ice Beam, but the front line's first defense was already being executed.

Once the Rhyperiors used Earthquake, the earth in front of them was already crumbling and falling away, and you were just entering the outer reaches of the mass attack. Knowing you wouldn't make it in time, even with the Agility enchantment that Max was so gracious to imbue to your Protector, you took Max and threw him as far as you could before the quake got close. While he sailed through the air toward your Aggron commander, he yelled, "Ramnas! Nooo!!!" as you fell through the earth...
