"Girls," you begin, "I'm not sure this will work. Your behavior is way off."

Jackie looks at you questioningly with Amanda's eyes. "What do you mean?"

You stand and pace around them, pointing out the differences to Jacqueline. "Amanda is acting like Amanda - bouncing around, full of energy, rapid-fire speech. Her intonation is 'teenagerish.' It's very weird to your body like that. And you... well, your movements and speech are very mature for Amanda. It just looks and sounds strange."

Jackie considers your words for a few minutes while Amanda looks on with a mixture of nervousness and excitement. Jackie has that look of intense concentration she always gets when trying to figure something out. Then she relaxes and there's a visible shift in her body language. She bounces from one foot to the other while moving around as if full of nervous energy. "Wow, this is totally awesome Uncle Gerry. I can't believe it's your wedding day!"

You stare at her in amazement. She drops the act. "Like that?" she asks.

"Uh, yeah," you answer. You knew Jackie had some acting ability but that was almost creepy. Amanda looks at her in awe, her mouth agape and her eyes wide. "Cool..." she says. "But I can't do that!"

Jackie turns to her and takes her hand. "Don't worry, Amanda. Just try to relax and control your movements more. And slow down when you talk, use a more even voice. Frankly, your role is actually easier. You can pass off any strange behavior today as 'wedding nerves.' It's the longer term issues that concern me; but we'll have to put those worries off for now. Let's focus on today for now."

She comes back to you and gives you a hug. "Sorry Gerry, but you need to get moving. The other girls will be here soon, and you've still got things to do as well. I'll stay glued to Amanda to help her through this. And she knows the ceremony already. It will all work out, you'll see."

With that she pushes you out of the room. In a daze, you go to finish the wedding preparations.
