Ron breathed a heavy sigh as he stepped back into his apartment that morning. He had just returned from running some early morning errands before he had to leave for the college he taught at, and it had been far from an ordinary trip. On his way back, he had encountered an old woman who had spilled her groceries in a crosswalk. He had helped her out, and in return the woman said she had granted him the ability to swap people's physical and mental traits ... and then she had seemingly vanished.
While he was skeptical, Ron had of course tried it, just to see. Lo and behold, it worked! He had tried a few things: swapping a young couple's hair, the height of a mother and her teen son, the clothes of two middle aged women, and the personalities of a young brother and sister walking with their father. He did reverse these swaps, of course, but he had learned the power was real.
Ron stroked his graying beard as he thought things over. He wondered what he might use his new power for. He glanced at a photograph of his daughter Allison, or Allie as she preferred to be called, and reflected upon things. She had moved out several months ago to get an apartment with a friend of hers, and Ron hadn't seen her since, despite the fact that she attended the college he taught at. It had taken her leaving for him to realize how much he liked having her around. It was only too late that he realized he had pushed her away by remaining so distant after his wife died.
He wondered if he might be able to use his new power to repair their relationship, but he wasn't sure how that would work ... and he didn't have time to think about that now. He had to get to work.
