Chapter #5

Round-Robin Swap.

“Oh, right, you are in your father’s body now Tim.”

This came as yet another shock to your system. You paused for a moment before you started to take stock of yourself. You looked down at your arms and hands and saw they were much more muscular and hairy. Moving to sit up yourself up some, your back felt a bit of a twinge of pain, and as you raised your hand up to your face you felt the roughness of your father’s stubble. Rubbing your face you could tell that you no longer possessed the little bit of baby fat in the face that you had as a teen.

“I’m my dad now… you said that we were all ok, so what happened to my dad?”

“When we were taking stock of your parents injuries, the left hemisphere of your father’s brain was damaged. A part of your mother’s right hemisphere was damaged so your father’s healthy brain could be transplanted directly to her body.”

“You keep explaining what went wrong, just tell me the results Doctor,” you said with an obvious desire for finality evident in your voice.

“Yes, of course Tim… your Mother’s healthy brain tissue was successfully transplanted into Tabitha’s body. As for Tabitha, she was a perfect match to then be transplanted into your body.”

“So it really is a round-robin mixup of us all. Wait, what about David? Who is he going to wake up as?”

“David had the least amount of trauma so he only received minimal treatment. He is still himself.”

“For real?! He gets to stay himself but we’re all twisted around like this?!” You shot upright in your bed with a strength and force you hadn’t previously possessed as a teen.

“Tim, I know this is hard to accept but your anger is misplaced.” You heard the doctor’s words and knew he was right. You tried to regain your composure but noticed you were having a harder time regaining your sense of control. Maybe your father’s body made it easier for you to get angry? Also simultaneously harder to calm down.

“Fine… but I can still be mad at you. Who else have you told this to?” You asked but didn’t let Dr. Kerry respond before continuing, “I can’t imagine they handled it better. At least I’m still my same gender.” You felt better having laid into the doctor some for his haphazard communication.

The doctor looked at you with frustration evident in his face and answered, “We have spoken with your parents already. They are coming to terms with the news while resting and recovering in their hospital rooms now.”

“Really? They are ‘coming to terms’ with this? Without talking to each other, without addressing the elephant in the room? I don’t believe you. I want to see my parents. Now!”
