She handed it back to you with a big "C-" on it. You sighed and slumped your shoulders. You had never been the smartest one in the family, a fact that your grades constantly reminded you of. Mom stroked your face.
"Oh, it's okay, Jenny. Maybe you'll do better next time." Mom said.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll do my best." you said, trying poorly to conceal your frustration.
With homeschool out of the way you were free to do what you wanted, which meant taking your mind off of your academic shortcomings.
