Akira thought it would be jut another random clinical trial. Get in, take a sample, pass out, get out. It definitely seemed like a routine trial. The same small talk with Dr. Takemi, the same cup of medicine, the same lack of consciousness after taking a drink.
He entered the clinic. Once again, he could smell the lemony cleaning supplies that kept the area spotless. Considering how understaffed the clinic was, he imagined Takemi hunched over, meticulously cleaning the waiting room to make it appear spotless for her patients.
"Well, hey there, my little guinea pig," Takemi beamed, a small smile on her face. "How's life?"
Akira shrugged. "You seem chipper."
"I am," she hummed. "I've got something a little special for you to try out. Head into the exam room."
He swallowed the lump in his throat but complied nonetheless. He sat on the exam bed waited for her to enter. After about a minute, Takemi entered, locking the door behind her.
"What's on the menu today?" Akira asked.
Takemi chuckled. "It's a secret. Just take it. If you pass out, you pass out. If you don't, you get to go home early."
She handed him the cup of a foul smelling purple liquid. Without hesitating, he drank the concoction.
