Chapter #6

Little lessons for the Black Eagles

    by: Kooplan Author IconMail Icon
With her mind cleared up, Byleth could finally focus. Ahead, she saw the Black Eagles classroom at the end of the Officer's Academy. It was far though, pass both the Golden Deer and Blue Lions houses. That distance was no problem at her normal size, but at her downsized scale, it seemed like it was at least ten times farther away!

That hardly mattered at this point, however. Byleth considered the dangers and risks, calculating things in seconds in her now cleared-up head, and understood the only way forward that made any sense for her was to find her students. They could be a rowdy bunch at times, but with the likes of house leader, Edelgard, or even her level-headed right-hand man, Hubert, being there made her choice a lot easier.

"Hmm~ Hm-hm-hm-hmm.. ♪" A loud, nearby feminine voice hummed, as equally loud footsteps got closer and closer.

Byleth hugged herself closer to the pillar and ducked down to make herself even smaller, so as to not be discovered by whoever was humming that tune. The girl passed by, her long legs and comparatively giant stature quite the sight for the tiny Byleth. However, the girl went by without ever noticing the shrunken woman at her feet.

Byleth looked up at the girl walking away, expecting and even hoping it to be Dorothea, the beautiful young songstress in her class, but was disappointed to see it another female student. She wore the insignia of the Golden Deer on her clothes.

Hmm... Byleth didn't want to waste anymore time outside. The close encounter with the giantess student was more than enough to tell her that she needed to find her students for help, and fast!

However, Byleth's plans to get help hit a slight hinge when she saw some reserve-course students standing idly by in front of the Blue Lions classroom. Although they were only teenagers, they looked massive from Byleth's point of view, daunting and powerful, even.

Most importantly of all, Byleth didn't recognize them at all, and so she decided to avoid them. For she knew as bad as being shrunken to this size was, it would be even worse for her to be discovered by someone she didn't know if she could trust or not, or Ferdinand. Not that Mr. Von Aegir was a bad student, far from it; it was just, his eccentric nature was not what the diminutive Byleth needed at the moment.

Byleth folded her tiny arms and examined the immediate area for the best course to take without being seen. Luckily for her, she was well hidden by a pillar, and of course tiny enough that nobody would really notice her unless they were looking for her. She briefly mused about how small she might be at this point, but it was pointless to consider right now. Time was of the essence, and someone could come by and see how anyway. That wasn't a risk that Byleth wanted to take.

I need to find my students.. Byleth thought. Certainly, the only ones she could really say she trusted with her life were her precious Black Eagles. No one else would she wish to show herself to, not when she was stuck being smaller than one of Bernadetta's dolls.

So she focused and imagined a path that would her to her classroom.

To her right, Byleth saw the usual little patch of grass and flowers was open and empty, a comfy little spot that she often found a sleepy Linhardt laying in. Nobody was there right now, but the untrimmed grass and foliage could be a major hindrance at for the tiny Byleth. There was also the added benefit of the large bushes nearer to the main building, which could hide the professor as she crawled through. The only problem there was, she didn't know what else could be lurking inside those shrubs.

Next up, Byleth noticed how the pillars of the Officers Academy lead up to a small scaffolding, one that was recently installed as per some small construction on the ceiling, and connected from house to house, all the way to the Black Eagles. Climbing the pillars would take the longest amount of time, but definitely be the safest way to avoid bringing unnecessary attention to herself. She was thankful she'd spent a good amount of time with Petra climbing trees and the like, that training would make things considerably easier, despite her being so puny.

Lastly, Byleth considered just making a mad dash for it, or trying to sneak past the comparatively giant students. Sure, she wasn't as fast as say, Caspar, but she had stealth added to her arsenal thanks to her shrinking. It was the most risky path to take...
