"That's so sad", Ellie comforted. "You poor little thing..." The little woman stood up and adjusted her shirt dress, trying to put up a strong front in the eyes of a child, giant or not. "Well... you're safe with me now", Ellie informed her. "I can take really good care of you. Honest." The little woman wasn't sure if she liked the sound of the finality of the girl's decision to keep her. She may have traded the many unknown dangers of the wild for the dangers of one massive child.
"If you can't remember your name, we need one till you do. Ok?" The little woman looked up at Ellie's smiling face and nodded with a weak smile. "Hmm... how about...", Ellie sat with her face in concentration. Her nose scrunched in deep thought. "I know! How about Polly?"
The small woman looked at the giant girl confused. "W-why Polly?" she asked.
"You know....", Ellie said as she looked around the floor of her room before coming back and standing one of her toys next to the small woman on the desk. "..like Polly Pocket." The woman looked at the toy next to her. It was a child's doll that was roughly the same size as she was. It was bizarre to see a girl's doll at such a massive size. It put her condition into a whole new perspective... that she was nothing more than a child's toy now. That thought made her nervous as she looked up at Ellie who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Ok...", the newly named Polly agreed.
"I'm sorry none of her clothes will work for you, Polly." She understood, as the interchangeable clothes for the toy line were nothing more than hard plastic.
"It's getting pretty late," Ellie said as she fought off a yawn and failed. "You can sleep in Barbie's house tonight." Ellie pointed at the dollhouse on her floor across the room. "She has a nice soft bed. I have a Polly Pocket playset but it's all hard plastic and stuff." Ellie lowered her hand to the desk palm up near Polly. The little woman nervously looked up at Ellie who smiled down at her. The bigger the girl grinned, Polly noticed she was missing a baby tooth. She looked at the giant hand and walked to it and climbed up onto it and sat very still in the middle as Ellie lifted her up.
The girl stood admiring the little adult in her hand from every angle. "You're so pretty," she cooed. Polly blushed and looked away embarrassed. She imagined Ellie was being polite, as she was still covered in grim and dirt from being in the woods for so long. Done admiring her new little friend, Ellie walked across the room and knelt down and opened the wall of the dollhouse. Polly watched as the hand she sat on was advancing on what appeared to be the bedroom. She couldn't help but notice how huge even this seemed to her. A dollhouse that was made for dolls four times her size. Ellie's hand came to rest on the dollhouse floor and Polly crawled off and stood in another giant room. All the furniture was gigantic to her. She walked over to the bed and saw climbing into it was going to be a chore. She looked back and saw Ellie watching her. Polly didn't want to have to ask a child to help her get into a dollhouse bed, so she reached up and grabbed the blanket and struggled on her own. She could hear Ellie trying to cover her giggles as Polly's legs frantically flailed around trying to find a foothold to hoist herself up. Then she felt something touch her rump. With a squeal Polly felt Ellie's finger push her up and on top of the mattress. Polly turned disheveled to face Ellie, her face red with embarrassment.
"Sorry... I just wanted to help." Ellie apologized between giggles. Polly simply smiled back as she scooted towards the head of the bed. Ellie's giant hand returned and lifted the blanket up and Polly settled against the pillow and the giant hand lowered back down the blanket and tucked her in. "There... all comfy." Polly smiled back as she wiggled herself under the warm doll's blanket. "You're so cute in that bed." Ellie giggled again. "It's so big for you... maybe tomorrow we can figure something better for you, Ok?"
"It's ok, Ellie... this is very nice." Polly grinned back. Just happy to be anywhere safer than the woods.
The giant girl looked in on her little friend with her chin resting in her hand. "I'm gonna keep you a secret." Ellie informed Polly. "I have an older sister... Jenna. She'd just want to take you and make you hers." Polly heard this and she didn't know what this Jenna was like but she imagined it might be better with Ellie. "And my mom... she'd just make you go away or something." Ellie said with concern easily evident on her face. "But they won't find you...", she said. Almost to convince herself out loud. "Well... sleep tight, Polly." She said as she kissed her fingertip and gently touched Polly's cheek, making the tiny woman smile and wince away.
The giant girl slowly moved the dollhouse wall back into place and left Polly alone in the giant room. It was surreal for Polly as she lay there and she could see through the window the giant form of the girl moving around the room outside. But then the light switched off and she could hear the giant getting into bed. As Polly lay in bed recounting the events of the past weeks and her current situation it was enough to make her dizzy. But soon she could hear the light snoring from Ellie, and the sound made Polly's eyes heavy and she drifted off to sleep.
That was yesterday. Now she was awake and sitting in the giant bed contemplating to run out of the dollhouse and away from the giant girl.... but where would she even go? Perhaps Ellie was her safest bet at survival. Even if she was an unpredictable child, she seemed to be sweet and only concerned with her well being.
