Alex comes across a shrinking elixir on his walk and ends up testing it out.
Chapter #1

The Elixir

After what felt like an eternity, the final bell rang, releasing me from my American Literature class. I hurry to my locker and grab my stuff. Unlike a lot of people, I had no desire to hang around after school. It was not that I hated learning; I just did not really like the social setting of high school. On my way out, Rebecca, one of the school’s cheerleaders, nearly ran into me. “Oh hey Alex, sorry about that,” she says with a sheepish grin. “I like your shoes.” She moves a little closer to me, which makes me a little uncomfortable. I could not tell if she was flirting or not. My cousin often told me I was clueless when it came to girls. I just never have been good in social situations.

Regardless, I have a crush on Jess, who was on the school’s track team. Rebecca is cute and all, but she is a bit of an airhead and not my type. “Oh...umm...thanks,” I reply. “I like your necklace.” I had a bad habit of always returning a compliment with another compliment. This makes her smile. “Well...umm...I will see you around.”

I continue out the door, popping in my headphones. Today I will be walking home alone. Most days, my cousin accompanied me since she lives down the street from me. However, Kasey is in theater and has rehearsal. I go into autopilot as I listen to my music and take my usual route: which leads me through the park, across Orchard Street, where the best pizza place in town is located, and past the air force base. As a fast walker, it typically takes me about 15 minutes to make the trip. I am moving alongside the fence that bordered the base, with its privacy screen and barbed wire, when I notice something sparkling in the grass near one of the service gates.

Curious, I walk over and examine it. A small metallic box lays on the ground. It is not all that extraordinary, looking like a recipe box that one might have in their kitchen. However, the bright red Top Secret stamped on the top makes it stand out. The metal is a little warm in my hand as I pick it up. Using my pocket knife, I pry the lid off. Inside there are two glass bottles, surrounded by black foam. They are about the size of salt and pepper shakers. The first one has a blue-ish liquid and is marked as a shrinking solution. The other is marked antidote and is a pinkish color. I can not believe my eyes. There is no way that this is an actual shrinking potion, is there? Upon further investigation, I find a card tucked into the box. It reads:

         Batch: 13a

         Lot: 604

         Status: Approved for further testing

Notes: Elixir successfully shrank the subject. Antidote successfully reversed the process—no noticeable adverse side effects. The subject has increased durability in the shrunken state. Move to phase 2 testing.

Intrigued, I want to find out if it really works. I look around to see if anyone had noticed me pick the box up. It probably fell off one of the transports going into the base. However, no one seems to be coming for it. I know I should probably turn in this fantastic find, but curiosity gets the best of me. After one more look to make sure no one is watching, I tuck the box into my backpack. I have always been fascinated with the idea of shrinking. In fact, shows featuring giantesses turn me on.

When I arrive home, there is a note from my parents. They decided to go out to dinner before their flight to Europe. I was given money to buy myself some food. I grab an apple before heading up to my room. Flopping my bag onto the ground, I pull out the shrinking elixir. Carefully I pull the stopper out of the bottle. The liquid inside smells like that slightly sweet medicine for kids. I pour a couple of drops on the apple. For a second, nothing happens, but then it starts to decrease in size rapidly. It is like watching a time-lapse of a plant growing but in reverse. The apple is now about the size of a golf ball. I can’t believe that it actually worked. Next, I put some of the antidote on the shrunken apple and watch as it grows back to normal size.
