About fifteen minutes after having left the apartment, Jack arrived at the parking lot to his place of employment. He noticed only about half of the usual parking spots were taken, indicating he was fairly early compared to his other coworkers. Yawning, Jack stepped out of his car and approached the building, ready to get his work week started on this warm Monday morning. As he was walking into the building, though, Jack felt something in his jacket pocket. Thinking it was just his wallet, he walked along into the building without any hesitation. He greeted the front desk clerk for the building, Stephanie, then proceeded to head to the real estate agency's designated floor. Once there, Jack greeted the young receptionist, Lily, as she touched up her morning makeup. The 22-year-old casually waved back while she continued her "work." The coworkers around Jack's cubicle hadn't showed up yet, so the agent set his things down and headed to the kitchen to grab a typical morning donut provided by the purveyor who comes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. When he returned to his desk, Jack took his jacket off and the thing that he had felt earlier fell out of his coat pocket. It wasn't his wallet. It was his old shrink ray.
"Shit," Jack mumbled under his breath. He quickly snatched up the device and put it in his pants pocket. He sat in his desk chair and sighed, knowing things are never steady when the shrink ray is out and about. With his experiences in the past, though, Jack felt as though he could be a lot more cautious with its activation and, in the instance of it going off, he could recover much quicker than in college. With the device put away, Jack focused on his emails to begin the work day. As people slowly started filing into the office, Jack gave a friendly glance and welcome to his coworkers he was closer to, like his good friends Jasmine and Quincy, but avoided some others that weren't quite warm to him since he arrived. Soon enough, his boss, Brenna, emerged from her office and went around the room to delegate each employee's daily assignments. When she got to Jack, she noticed he had been proactive in getting caught up for the daily events. "I'm impressed, Jack. Not that you're any slacker, but you're already ahead of the game this morning. Keep it up today, huh?" the woman smiled. Jack smiled back and nodded before turning back towards his computer. He always appreciated a nod of approval from Brenna, but couldn't stop himself from tensing up whenever she was around. As she walked away, Jack breathed a sigh of relief and returned his full attention to his work.
Unfortunately, later on that morning, Jack would run into a slight complication. What was this complication?
