Chapter #4

The Silver Masks

    by: Unknown
Suddenly, the two heard a yell and a clang of steel on steel.
"They've been attacked!" Cried Isabelle. she darted toward the sounds of battle.
"Wait!" hissed Daniel, grabbing her collar. "We can't just rush in there blindly. either the knights will kill us or the enemy will."
Isabelle stopped, a still figure outlined by shadows. then finally, she slid the knife from out of her boot and pulled Daniel into the forest. "We can still help them," she said. "But after we do, we should run for our lives."
"Why--"
"Just trust me!"
~*~*~*~
Donovan gritted his teeth as the blade bit into his shoulder, but continued on with the fight. to give into pain would be to give into death.
Several of the silver-masked creatures cried inhumanly in delight at the sight of his blood, then dove in on him eagerly.
There was a flash as Thomas split two of the creatures and they both fell to the ground without a sound.
"Thanks," Donovan panted.
"Save your breath for fighting," came the grim reply.
Andrew parried once again, and thrust with amazing speed. but the creature blocked his blow and slit his leg. Andrew cried out and fell, he brought his sword out weakly as the enemy decended--
a silver blade whizzed through the night and struck the attacking figure in the back, and it screamed in pain. another blade bit into Bernard's attacker, it too dying in screams. one of the taller creatures cried something in a hoarse language, and the rest disappeared into the forest.
There was silence in the grove except the knights panting, listening.
finally,Donovan strode quickly to Andrew and knelt beside him.
"You alright?"
"I've had worse."
"We're lucky that someone decided to step in," Thomas said loudly. "Otherwise we'd be dead."
silence.
Andrew stared at the full moon above. "Whoever it was doesn't want to be known," he said.
Donovan nodded and helped the wounded man to his feet, supporting him with his shoulders. "Bernard, could you give me a hand, here?" he asked. there was no answer.
"Bernard?"

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
